Ken is my right hand man, he is the one I can turn to in a pinch. He has been with us now for going on 3 years. We have been friends for many years, well over 15 years. He has it all, the desire and interest in learning more. Training is just one aspect of Ken's talents. He devolped a custom Evacuation Plan for the Disabled for one of our long time clients. This Evac Plan was for a multi-story building with over 2500 poeple in and out of it all day. I was so impressed with how it came out, and happy to say so was our client. Ken will be learning more and more throughout 2011. He has the drive and enjoys teaching. This was many years ago but I remember when Ken wanted to follow the route of teaching/trainer. We at A+ Safety are proud to have him as part of our family. Keep an eye out for him this year as we update on his progress.
On a personal note
Hi, I’m Ken Kopkin, one of A+ Safety Training’s Instructors. I was born and raised here in Southern California where I grew up in Northridge, which was our family’s home until right after the massive Northridge Earthquake. I currently live in Simi Valley, and my parents are in Westlake, plus my one older sister lives in Thousand Oaks, so my immediate family is close, and that’s important to me.
I live with my girlfriend of five years, Maureen, and she is my best friend and partner in life. Maureen is a remarkable woman because she has endured and survived three Kidney transplants during her life, and she has a wonderful outlook on life. Together with our two loving dogs, Sissy and Squeaky, and her large family of brothers, sister, nieces and nephews, we have a caring extended family network.
I’ve always enjoyed sports and outdoor activities like riding bikes, hiking and skiing, and when we are able we try to go to Mammoth for skiing, and also take a trip to Yosemite for hiking and biking in the natural beauty. To stay in shape, I walk the dogs almost every day, even when it rains. One of my passions is music, and I have been playing the drums seriously since I was 12 years old. After playing in numerous original bands, writing lyrics and music, I joined a Tribute band three years ago called NEARVANA – The Ultimate Nirvana Experience, and we currently play shows all over the West Coast.
I joined A+ Safety through my friendship with owner Denis Kennedy. He and I have been friends for more than 15 years, and we have helped each other through some tough times, so it was a natural when the opportunity to join was presented. I had worked for Farmers Insurance in the Auto Claims department for 17 years in every job capacity they had, and almost all my experience there has been able to be applied to my new job duties, including time spent training newly hired adjusters, as well as training the entire staff when a new computer system was put in place.
I guess you could say I’ve been helping people with safety for my whole career, and taking it to the life saving level has been very satisfying for me. The chance to make a difference in people’s lives, a positive difference, is one of the things I love best about my job. We are helping businesses, and ultimately, individuals, stay safe, minimize damages, and potentially save lives. That’s why the CPR/First Aid/AED class is my favorite to teach; I get to interact with my classes and do some hands on training which people really enjoy. A+ Safety has a relaxed, fun style that encourages people to have a good time, which suits my personality perfectly.
I also like meeting all the different clients and learning about them and their business. Everyone is different and unique, so it’s really cool that A+ Safety customizes programs to meet the needs of the client, like when I got to create a specialized Emergency Evacuation Plan for Handicapped People.
I’m Ken Kopkin from A+ Safety Training, I’m happy to know you, and I look forward to working with you soon!
