HAZWOPER 8 hour Refresher

(5 student min, 20 students max)

HAZWOPER 24, 40 hour (15 students max per class)

DURATION OF COURSE: 8 hours/24 hours over 3 days

The levels of training and competencies one must demonstrate and information sheets used for 8-hour refresher is as follows:

8-hour Refresher

o Know how to implement employer’s emergency response plan

 Emergency response plan

 California hazardous materials incident contingency plan

o Know the classification, identification, and verification of known and unknown materials using field survey instruments and equipment

 Detection devices

o Be able to function within an assigned role in the ICS

 Incident command system

 Laws

o Know how to select and use proper specialized chemical PPE provided to the hazardous materials worker

 Proper protective clothing

 Laws

o Understand hazard and risk assessment techniques

 Chemistry and terms

 Recognition and identification

 Entry and back-up team operations

o Be able to perform advance control, containment and/or confinement operations and rescue injured or contaminated persons within the capabilities of the resources and PPE available in the unit

 Rescue, containment, control, confinement and decontamination

 Decontamination

 Tanker trucks

o Understand and implement equipment, victim and rescue personnel decontamination procedures
